Candlelight evening – Canceled due to storm warnings

Evening of lights at Iepenhof cemetery

After a two-year absence due to the corona measures, the Lichtjesavond at Iepenhof cemetery is back. This returned tradition takes place on Thursday, November 2, All Souls' Day at the cemetery on the Hoofdweg in Hoofddorp. Everyone is welcome, regardless of religion, to light a candle and remember loved ones who have passed away.

Torches

Volunteers from the Iepenhof cemetery are organizing this evening together with Dunweg Uitvaartzorg and the municipality of Haarlemmermeer. The cemetery is attractively illuminated with lights, torches and candles. Singing Unlimited from Hoofddorp provides musical entertainment throughout the site.

Monument

During the evening, the volunteers hand out candles and plants. There is also the option to enjoy hot chocolate, coffee or tea. From 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, everyone is welcome to light a candle in memory of a deceased loved one. This ritual has taken on a deep meaning for many. There is also the opportunity to reflect on the special monument for stillborn children. Lichtjesavond in Hoofddorp offers a personal space for commemoration, which everyone can give meaning to in his or her own way.
